In my farewell column published a little over one year ago, I explained that after writing over 500 opinion pieces, several feature stories, and a handful of news reports during my tenure as a regular contributor to the Boone County Journal, I believed that I had nothing of value left to say. But I must confess there was another reason for stepping away from the public spotlight that I did not mention at the time.
