Ashland man causes fatal crash in Columbia

According to the Columbia Police Department, Allen D. Nichols, 84, of Ashland, was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 63 near the I-70 Connector on May 3rd around 5:00pm.

Columbia Police, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, and the Missouri Highway Patrol located and attempted to stop Mr. Nichols’ blue 2021 Chevrolet Equinox before it collided with a 2018 Dodge Ram driven by Robert Heckman, 56, of Columbia.

Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. Mr. Nichols died at the scene due to his injuries sustained during the crash. His next of kin has been notified.

Heckman was treated at the scene by Columbia Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services and was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
