After their first match and first win, the Eagles wrestling team got a dose of reality on Thursday when they traveled to Blair Oaks and were defeated by the Falcons and the Versailles Tigers in dueal meets.

But Blake Schmidt at 132 lbs. won the Eagles’ first tournament championship as he went 5-0 on Saturday and won the Versailles title.

“He wrestled really well and is still unbeaten,” said Eagles coach Trent Tracy. Schmidt is 8-0 on the season.

Dominic Lawrence also had something to shout about as he earned a silver medal at Versailles on Saturday. Lawrence at 285 lbs. wrestled a close match before being pinned with seconds left in the final period in the championship bout.

Tracy said the Eagles wrestled well in their first tournament, getting wins from Connor Phillips, a fourth place medal and 2-3 on the day at 106 lbs. and Tanner Smith place 3rd at 220 lbs and getting three wins in the tournament.
