The SoBoCo Eagles boys basketball team knew they would be out-sized in many of their early games.

But coach Andy Jahnsen knew that his team was faster.

The Eagles ran past the Moberly Spartans 65-55 and the Linn Wildcats 63-41 last week to improve their record to 3-0 on the season.

“We won’t be bigger than anyone, but we are doing things on defense that other teams can’t handle and our speed allows us to do some things on offense they can’t cover,” Jahnsen said.

It all comes down to the team speed on the court.

At Moberly last Tuesday, the Eagles got 17 points from Sam Stichnote before he left the game midway through the third quarter after an elbow in the mouth. Stichnote left to get stitches (he returned for Friday’s game) but his teammates held a 23-point lead before the Spartans made a run on the Eagles subs.

“It was a comfortable win because we shot the ball really well,” Jahnsen said, “that and our defense was just too much for them.”

Maguire Scheer led the Eagles with 25 points, including five 3-pointers. Spencer Taggart had 10 assists in the game.
