With his starting point guard on the bench, coach Tony Phillips went to multiple players to run the Eagles attack in their game at Moberly on Monday.

Senior Riley Scheer started, junior Kate Ponder came off the bench and the Eagles continued to roll over their opponents with a 61-31 win to move to 4-0 on the young season.

“Riley makes sure that everyone is in the right place,” Phillips said, “she is a very smart player and uses her experience.”

Ponder gave the Eagles a spark off the bench. “She came in and gave us some energy,” Phillips added. “She played well on defense and got some assists.”

While Phillips said the Eagles did not shoot well, (51% from the field) they had 17 steals and denied the Spartans good shots from the floor. SoBoCo raced out to a 37-14 lead at halftime and was not threatened the rest of the game. Megan Barnett led the Eagles with 15 points, Kylie Shoot had 13 points and Skyler Beeson added 11 points.

• Emma Anderson became the 6th Eagles girls player to hit the 500-rebounds in a career mark.

Eagles Defeat John Burroughs

While Phillips added a few games to the schedule this fall in order to challenge his team, the Eagles have been up to that challenge. On Saturday they went to Ladue and defeated John Burroughs 57-26.

“They had an athletic team and it was a physical game,” said Phillips.

The Eagles only shot 34% from the floor and hit only 5-of-14 from the free throw line. However, SoBoCo went underneath the basket to senior Emma Anderson who keyed a 23-2 second half run for the Eagles to put the game away.
