The Eagles Soccer Team kicked off the season in strong fashion on August 29, hosting the Osage Indians (0-3) in Ashland. The Varsity contest was evenly matched throughout. The opening 40 minutes began with both teams fighting for possession and looking to create scoring opportunities. SBC created more shots than the visitors, but couldn’t find the back of the net in the opening half. On the other end of the field, the starting Eagles back line of senior James Brooks, junior Easton Cooper, and sophomores Zachary Hawkins and Chase Rackers thwarted any real scoring chances before they became dangerous – except for the closing 10 seconds of the period. Osage took a free kick from near midfield and launched the ball into the box. As SBC goalkeeper Emery Arnold caught the ball cleanly, an Eagles defender was called for a foul in the box, resulting in an Osage penalty kick. The PK was successful, and the home team was somewhat in shock as they trotted to their bench down 0-1 at the half, despite outplaying their opponent.

The Eagles opened the second period with high intensity and placed significant pressure on the Indians’ back line as the visitors controlled the ball.
