Youth Season 2023

Youth turkey season 2023 would be a repeat of my last four. I would be with my youngest Grandson Connor Dietrich. Connor is 11-years old now and has already killed 4 gobblers. This year he hoped to continue his consecutive streak.
We began this adventure on the last weekend of March in Hancock County, Illinois. We were the guests of Rich Burian, the owner/operator of SHUHART CREEK WHITETAILS. This will be our 3rd year in a row to hunt there. We love this place. In fact, I will be coming back to hunt here in the Illinois 3rd season.
Connor and I arrived at the camp on Friday, and as always, we hit the pond for some fishing. It was a bit windy, but we caught a few bass and crappie. We got to bed early for a 5AM alarm. I could hear the wind howling all night. When the alarm went off, I went to the cabin’s front deck to check the weather. I was shocked to see well over an inch of snow and full blizzard conditions.
