GARAGE SALES, GARAGE SALES, GARAGE SALES! This Saturday, Sep. 21st is the fall city-wide garage sale. This will be a wonderful day to travel around town and see the improvements and new buildings going up.

While you are at it, the Englewood Mutton Supper is also going on from 4-7pm on Saturday, and if you have not attended that in the past, you should check it out. For those of you that have been before, I hope to see you return. Meats include mutton, ham, and BBQ chicken, with the usual fixins’ and desserts. The proceeds will go towards the Englewood Community Club’s HVAC system replacement. Live music will be on hand with “Sarah & Mark,” and you can get your food to go, or sit, eat, and visit!

The Southern Boone School District is currently seeking part-time bus drivers to assist with morning and afternoon bus routes for school, as well as transportation for athletic and activity trips. The district offers a competitive starting pay of $26.57 per bus route and $17 per hour for trips. Applicants must have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a School Bus Passenger Endorsement Permit.

However, no prior experience is required, as the district provides paid on-site training for all new hires.
This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone in the community who is looking for part-time work. It is especially ideal for retirees or those seeking to supplement their income while contributing to the success of our students. For more information, interested candidates can contact Transportation Director Kyle Foreman at (573) 657-2147 or by email at kforeman@sbschools.us. Additionally, more details and the application form can be found on the district’s website at sbschools.us/employment. (Matt Sharp, PR Director for Southern Boone School District)

By joining Southern Boone’s team, drivers will not only gain flexible, part-time employment, but they will also play a vital role in supporting the district’s students and our community. I have always admired the school bus drivers, and the impact they have on our youth, not only in ensuring the students’ safety, but as role models and friends. Garry Nichols had his bus number retired, and enough cannot be said not only about how much the kids adore him, but he them as well. And when my kids played school sports, I always felt good knowing Mark Nistendirk was behind the wheel keeping the kids safe and getting them to behave. So, make a difference, be a bus driver if you can.

Item to keep on your schedule for the near future: The Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival on Saturday & Sunday, October 12th and 13th.

Finally, in last week’s paper I wrote about the importance of our police department being the “gatekeepers” to the city, including along Highway 63. This week a homeless person was forced by others to attempt to cash bad checks at a local bank. Police arrested the two criminals behind this from Fairburn, Georgia. Kudos to the police department for not only taking care of this outside element, but for buying the homeless person a good meal.
