Larry Dean Sapp, aka “Uncle Larry”, 80, of Olathe, passed away on March 16, 2019 at Olathe Hospice House surrounded by his immediate family.
He was born on June 10, 1938 to Frank and Opal (Tremain) Sapp at Columbia, Mo., but considered Boonville to be his true hometown.
On February 1, 1969, he married Shirley Ann Sapp (Brown). Larry and Shirley lived in Ashland, Mo. before moving to Olathe, Kan. for the past 30 years.
Larry was first and foremost a Cowboy and a Storyteller, everything else seemed to pale in comparison. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force 1961-1967 as an Aviation Technology Instructor. He went on to enjoy a career in many different fields including ranch hand, horse trainer, work for the Columbia Tribune and Kansas City Star, Real Estate Broker, Finance Specialist, Motivational Speaker, and consummate Salesman. In retirement Larry continued to influence lives as a bus monitor on the Olathe School District buses for students with Special Needs. He also was a member of the V.F.W., Mason’s, the Olathe Christian Church, and Steven’s Bay Expedition Crew.
Larry is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 50 years Shirley. Sons, Joel Sapp and Johnalyn, of Independence, Mo., and Jeffery Sapp and Gina, of Gardner, Kan., Sister Lona Forsee, of Marysville, Ohio; three grandchildren Jake Sapp and Sarah of Seattle, Wash., Tanya Sapp of NY., and Anna Sapp of Independence, Mo.; four nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both his parents and sister Shirley “Shorty” Skidmore of San Diego, Calif.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2019, 6:00-8:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Olathe Chapel.
Memorial in the name of Larry are suggested to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
