Ashland Police Chief Lyn Woolford is warning area residents about a telephone scam in Mid-Missouri.

Woolford said in a press release that a president of the New Cambria area called the Ashland Police Department on Wednesday afternoon reporting that he had received a call from a person who identified himself as Scott Davis (or “Davison”) with the Ashland Police Department. The caller said they were soliciting money in order to bail out a residents’ daughter. The resident was asked to send the money via iTunes cards.

The call back number of 204-209-0508 was provided, which Woolford said traces back to Manitoba, Canada.

The scam was avoided. Woolford added that the Ashland Police Department does not have an officer by the name of Scott Davis or Davison.

Woolford added that residents should be wary of anyone soliciting for funds via telephone.
