Ian McCluskey scored two first half goals to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 win over Belle – a Class 1 Final Four team a year ago.
McCluskey’s first goal came just 1:34 into the game as the Eagles got off to a quick start. He scored again about 22 minutes later, putting the ball past the Belle goalie.
SoBoCo’s midfield, including the efforts of Maguire Scheer, Ian Moore and Sam Bonderer, dominated the play late in the first half, keeping the ball on the Eagles offensive end. When the ball did slip past midfield, Ivan Bossert, Ethan Blackburn and the rest of the Eagles defense was there to clean things up.
Sophomore Ricky Weisner got the Eagles’ third goal in the second half.
The second half was much of the same as the Eagles moved their record to an 8-1 mark, ranked again near the top of the state’s Class 2 soccer rankings. The Eagles host Mexico next Tuesday.
If ESPN had an “instant classic” channel for high school soccer, Tuesday’s Eagles vs Jeff City game would be playing for weeks into the future.
