The SoBoCo girls volleyball team will add something new this year – another team.

The Eagles squad, 28 girls in all, will divide into three teams this season with a varsity, junior varsity and a freshman team this year.

“We will have Regan Crow coach the freshman girls and I will have Greg Wingraph, who has coached club volleyball in Jefferson City as my assistant coach,” said Eagles volleyball coach Jamie Nelson.

“This gives the freshman girls a chance to compete with girls their own age,” Nelson said of the new freshman team. “It’s a big jump to go from Middle School to junior varsity volleyball, and this gives girls another year to develop their game – as well as a chance to get more playing time.”

Nelson said about half of the Tri-County Conference schools have freshman squads. The Eagles freshmen will play 9-to-10 game schedule against most of the same opponents as the JV and varsity.
