The Southern Boone Eagles football team did exactly what it needed to do on Friday night, coming away from Warsaw with a 49-21 Tri-County Conference win.
Although, it didn’t exactly go as planned.
The Eagles didn’t plan on starting out getting burned on defense by a long pass reception. And they certainly didn’t plan on keeping the Wildcats out of the end zone with a Brian Kent interception.
Eagles quarterback Spencer Taggart takes the snap with running back Tanner Smith ready to take the handoff. The Eagles ran the ball for 291 yards on Friday.
After the Wildcats hit their long bomb to get into scoring position, Kent intercepted the Warsaw quarterback’s pass – a rare thing for a defensive lineman – and sprinted 70-yards to the Wildcats 15-yard line before he was hauled down by a Warsaw receiver.
From there….it was all SoBoCo.
The Eagles got a 9-yard TD run from Jackson Sartain and in the second quarter got four TDs – two on the ground and two in the air.
Spencer Taggart had a 12-21 passing and 3 TDs with one interception and got his first TD pass to Sam Stichnote for the second Eagles score.
Taggart then hit Kolton Schupp for a 15-yard TD strike to make the score 21-0.
After Taggart completed the third TD drive of the quarter for a 1-yard quarterback sneak and a TD, Warsaw came back for a 2-yard TD run of their own.
