It will be a new era for Southern Boone basketball as the 20170-18 season kicks off next Tuesday at Harrisburg. Both the Eagles boys and girls graduated a group of seniors which led SoBoCo to two conference tournament crowns and, for the boys two years of 25-plus wins and a district championship and, for the girls, three district titles and a trip to the Final Four.
It is the beginning of a new era, but both coaches Andy Jahnsen for the Eagles boys and Tony Phillips for the Ealges girls will continue to teach what brought last yaer’s teams success – a running offense and hard-nosed defense.
Stichnote Stands Out
Eagles boys coach Andy Jahnsen likes the idea of having a returning All State player like Sam Stichnote on his team.
Besides playing tough defense and finding a way to beat anyone to the basket, Stichnote is an excellent team player and a leader on the court.
But Jahnsen has more fire power this season than just his one returning starter.
“It’s OK that we will be a different team this year from last year,” Jahnsen said. “I told the team the other day that we bring a different kind of versitility to the game and we can play good defense and run with teams.”
