If you ask coach Trent Tracy, he will tell you that the Southern Boone Eagles football team is only thinking about winning a football game at Warsaw this Friday night.

“That is what we can control,” Tracy said, “we can’t control what is happening in the Mexico vs Fulton game – we need to win our football game and, if possible, win by 13 or more points.”

Tracy referenced the Mexico-Fulton game as that district contest could go a long way towards deciding the district placings for the playoffs. And defeating Warsaw and Versailles on Oct. 14 by 13 or more points will help the Eagles in the district standings.

SoBoCo is in third place in the district right now – behind Blair Oaks and Mexico – and climbing to second place would assure the Eagles of two home playoff games.

But first things first – defeating an 0-7 Warsaw Wildcats team.

“They are better than they were last year and they are better than their record indicates,” Tracy said. “They have some size and they run between the tackles well. Their QB runs the ball well and we will have to tackle well in this game to contain him.”

However, Warsaw does not have the team speed to compete with the Eagles. If SoBoCo can avoid looking ahead, not commit turnovers and break out their Spencer Taggart air attack, SoBoCo should win this game comfortably.

The Eagles are working on several new offensive sets – which will eventually lead to some new looks in the playoffs.

“I would like for us to try some of our new stuff, but we will have to see,” Tracy said. “Right now, we are looking at this week and next week’s game as though they are playoff games and we want to control our own playoff destination.”

While Tracy – and any other high school coach – would like to win comfortably and play at home, the Eagles have the unique perspective of playing some of their best football on the road.

In the past two seasons, SoBoCo won playoff games on the road (at Owensville two years ago and at California last season) and played well in a playoff loss at Fulton last year. This year the Eagles destroyed Hallsville on the road in one of their most complete games of the season.
