Southern Boone Eagles’ and Lady Eagles’ season came to an end last week in the district semi-finals, with the boys losing to Blair Oaks on Wednesday, March 5th, and the girls losing to Owensville on Thursday.

Varsity boys matched the Falcons’ energy and both teams held the lead in a back-and-forth battle throughout the game. Chase Rackers was the top scorer for the night with 17 points. The game was tied 47-47 with 0.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter as the Eagles came to the line to shoot two free throws. Both shots were missed, sending the game into overtime. The Eagles ultimately lost by three points, with a final score of 52-55. Blair Oaks fell to Father Tolton on Friday, March 7th in the district championship game.

Coach Jahnsen would like to congratulate the 2024-25 basketball team on an outstanding season, as your hard work and commitment to your team has not gone unnoticed.

“I’m proud of the young men you have become, and how you have represented your school, team and community.”

Lady Eagles faced the Owensville Dutchgirls on Thursday, March 6th, but were outmatched by their opponent. Owensville defensive game took any chance they had to steal the ball, and the Lady Eagles’ missed shots put them further away from victory. Lady Eagles played hard but came up short with a 28-53 loss. Owensville went on to become the district champions after defeating the California Pintos on Saturday, March 8th.

New Head Coach Andrew Stone had nothing but positive admiration for the Lady Eagles, adding “Although the season may not have ended the way we hoped, this was a positive season of growth for our team. Starting off a season 1-8 is never easy, but our kids continued to battle and won 7 of our next 11 games as we figured out our identity as a group.

There is a great foundation to continue to build with as well, as our JV kids ended the season with an 8-game win streak and really started playing great basketball down the stretch. The future is bright!

Finally, I’m extremely thankful for our two seniors, Cami and Adisen. I only got to coach them for one year, but I am appreciative of the work they’ve done over the past four years to put themselves and this program in a position to be successful. Both had great seasons and will forever be a part of the Lady Eagles Basketball family. I cannot wait to see where this life takes them!”

Congratulations to these two teams for their hard work and dedication to the sport, and for representing Southern Boone well.
