It has been a busy few weeks for the Lady Eagles as they had three events within 7 days, starting on 8/30 with the Par-3 Tournament at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville. The ladies took 3rd place with a team score of 318 and junior Breckyn Shewmake came in tied for fourth overall.

According to Coach Golightly “we had two of our varsity players out, and our two JV players really stepped up. I am very proud of them and how well they played in their first varsity match.”

After this the ladies headed back to Boonville on 9/3. Although the ladies did not play well, they learned a lot about their game and reflected on their goals for the season. According to Coach Golightly “we need to get that round out of our system. Every time you step on the course it is a learning experience.”

However, two days later at Arthur Hills Golf Course the ladies shined. Breckyn Shewmake took top honors firing at 44, and Courtney Hargis carded a 50 for 2nd place. Additionally, the team won the quad match against Palmyra, Mexico, and Harrisburg with a team total of 207.

Next on the agenda was the first home match of the season against Jefferson City, New Bloomfield, and Centralia. Breckyn Shewmake carded a personal record of 40 and Alice Mauney brought in a 48. Overall, the team tied for first with Jefferson City, carding a team total of 200. Kenzie Davis led the way for junior varsity, carding a personal record of 54. “Kenzie just picked up a club this summer – her work ethic is phenomenal, and she is easy to coach. She is the total package.”

Finally, on September 18th we had senior night, competing against Blair Oaks and Hallsville. Seniors Alice Mauney, Erissa Robertson, and Sofia Wiley were honored before the match, sharing stories of their favorite times on the team and celebrating their many accomplishments.

Alice Mauney, alongside her mother Monica Mauney, celebrate senior night.

Erissa Robertson celebrates senior night with her mother Ashley, father Jacob, and brother Liam by her side.

After senior night festivities, the ladies hit the course, coming in second place to Blair Oaks who, as a team, carded a 194. Breckyn Shewmake led the team and tied for top honors with a 43, and Courtney Hargis fired a 51. Southern Boone defeated Hallsville with a team score of 203 to 210.

The ladies will be busy the next few weeks with tournaments at Meadowlake and Kirksville, a match at California, and then back to Meadowlake. Although it’s a busy schedule for these ladies, it’s also exciting to see the results of all their hard work. Coach Golightly acknowledges that “these ladies have worked so hard in practice, and I cannot wait to see what is in store for them these next few weeks.”
