Tristan Miller evades Pirates defense

The rain didn’t put a damper on Eagle spirit last Monday, Sep. 23rd as the JV faced off against Boonville and the Freshman team went toe-to-toe with Rock Bridge.

JV Eagles stayed with Boonville until the end but couldn’t pull off the win. Boonville offense came out tough, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter to bring the score to 16-0.

Gavin Koch then picked off a Pirate pass, and the Eddy brothers profited off the interception when Denton threw a pass to Brandt for a touchdown, bringing the score to 7-16 at the end of the first half. According to Activities Director Trent Tracy, the sibling touchdown pass is the second in Eagle football history, the first being Seth & Gannon Mueller.

Neither team scored during the third quarter, as the drizzly, wet conditions began to make it difficult to catch the ball, but both teams gave it their all in the fourth quarter. The cheerleaders kept the crowd in good spirits despite the dreary weather.

Eagles scored with seven minutes left in the 4th quarter, almost catching up to the Pirates at 14-16, but Boonville answered by scoring two more touchdowns with four minutes left in the game.

The Eagles weren’t going down without a fight, and Tate Muzzey ran in a touchdown with one sec left in the game, bringing the final score to 20-28.

The second game of the night was off to a slow start, as the drizzle turned into a light rain. Both teams struggled to hold onto the ball, with several dropped passes. The score was 6-0 Eagles at the half.

The Bruins intercepted an Eagle pass with five minutes left in the third quarter and ran in a touchdown, but their two-point conversion was no good, so the score was tied at 6-6.

The Eagles answered Rock Bridge with a touchdown by Rowan Bonnot, followed by Knox Talley intercepting a Bruins’ pass and running in another touchdown with a few seconds left on the clock, bringing the final score to 18-6.

The JV team traveled to Father Tolton on Monday, Sep. 30th. Results not available by press time. Check Southern Boone Atheltics website for full schedule and scores.
