The SoBoCo Eagles wrestling team might be in only their second year, but they don’t hesitate to take on some of the toughest competition in the area.

The Eagles faced Father Tolton – which has two major college recruits on their squad – and then competed in the Moberly Duals meet last week.

The Eagles fell to Tolton by a 36-33 score – SoBoCo’s Blake Schmidt, Tyler Lutz and Dom Lawrence got wins – but the Eagles came back on Friday and Saturday to notch four wins in their nine matches.

“What is really important to know there,” said Eagles coach Trent Tracy, “is that we were this close,” he said, holding his thumb and index finger inches apart, “this close to going 6-3 at Moberly.”

The Eagles were, indeed that close. SoBoCo tied Sullivan on the strength of a pin by Max Hampton, but lost in the tie-breaker after Dom Lawrence fell in OT and Sullivan had more match wins. The Eagles 37-36 loss was an indicator to Tracy that wrestlers such as Hampton and Ty Varvil, who narrowly lost 12-9 were moving up the competition ladder.
