Sophomore Titus Pridemore makes the layup

The Southern Boone boys’ basketball teams crushed their opponents on home court, defeating the Union Wildcats on Friday, Jan. 24th, and the Fulton Hornets on Jan. 23rd.
Varsity took an early lead against the Wildcats and did not allow Union to be ahead at any point in the game. Several three-pointers by Jace Wren and layups by Chase Rackers gave the Eagles an early advantage in the first half.

Eagles’ defense shut down the Union scoring game, while racking up twice as many points. The Eagles led 47-27 at the half. Several more scores by Wren, Rackers, and Brayden Beckmann kept the team on top, finishing the game at 71-61.

Wren led the team in scoring with 19 points, followed by Rackers with 16 points. Varsity also bested the Fulton Hornets 87-61 the night before.

The JV Eagles had an equally impressive week. Off to a slower start, the JV led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter against the Wildcats after several buckets by Brody Troth.

The team picked up speed in the second quarter and only allowed Union to score two points during the second quarter, heading into halftime 32-13.

JV defensive plays continued to shut down the Wildcats, with four steals. The Eagles landed on top with a final score of 55-25, as Troth led the team in scoring with 16 points. The JV team also defeated Fulton the night before, with a final score of 40-30.
