Last week the Southern Boone boys’ soccer team traveled to Washington, MO to face recently scheduled opponent St. Francis Borgia (4-4). However, that wasn’t the most talked about occurrence that took place during the week. On Sept. 21, the Missouri State High School Activities Association announced that Southern Boone is now a Class 1 school in soccer. The Eagles have participated in Class 2 for the past several years.

This news got the attention of everyone associated with the program, as it means that the path through the state playoffs, to the Final Four, and a potential state championship appears more attainable than ever before. For those who have followed the program for the last several years, they know all too well that state title runs have often been ended by the likes of Springfield Catholic, John Burroughs, and other private schools. With the Eagles being placed in Class 1 this season, it would seem that the Eagles have a great opportunity to reach the Final Four and vie for their first-ever state championship.
