The Eagles soccer team began the season in dominant fashion on Saturday, defeating the Capital City Cavaliers 6-0 on a soggy home field. During the first half of play, the Eagles controlled possession of the ball and forced the attack, creating multiple shot opportunities. Midfielders Trenton Roney and Jack Bigos effectively clogged up the middle of the field whenever the Cavaliers attempted to counter, quickly transitioning the ball into the attacking third of the field. Junior Jack McCluskey was the first to put the ball in the back of the net, scoring on a strong shot nineteen minutes into the game on an assist from sophomore Mason Ahern. Seven minutes later, senior Landon Beeson added a goal after corralling a Grant Hoehne throw-in at the top of the box amid multiple defenders. Solid play from the back line of Lleyton Shoot, Ethan Esry, Ethan Osborne, and Mason Ahern consistently kept the ball away from the Eagles’ goal for most of the half.
