In 2017 and 2018, The Southern Boone boys soccer team faced off against the Father Tolton Trailblazers with the district championship on the line. The 2017 contest was a double-overtime thriller that the Eagles won 2-1. The following year, an equally competitive match ended with a 3-2 victory by Southern Boone. Last Wednesday, the two programs once again met in Ashland with the district title and state playoffs on the line. Both teams had playoff ambitions, with the Eagles ranked #1 and the Trailblazers #7 in state prior to the match.

Just over two weeks ago, Southern Boone claimed a 2-0 win over Tolton in Columbia – but the two experienced goalkeepers who combined to shut out the Trailblazers in that match were not available last week. Due to a new COVID case in the high school, those goalies were quarantined. In their place, first-year player Aidan Bukowsky stepped into the starting goalkeeper role for the district finals.
