The SoBoCo Eagles soccer team saw one of their top playmakers go down and out for the season last week, but got another goal scorer returned to the lineup.

Along with a pair of wins, the Eagles also got the nod as the No. 1 seed at next week’s District Tournament in Fulton.

Eagles midfielder/forward Faryn Griffin will likely miss the rest of the season after injuring her knee and ankle in the SoBoCo 5-0 win over Sedalia Sacred Heart last Friday.

Griffin, who seemingly was in on or around every goal the Eagles had been scoring recently, went down after arriving at a ball simultaneously as a Sacred Heart player. She was helped off the field.

However, Kate Ponder added to her team-leading 18 goals with a pair of goals. Ponder, who missed nearly two weeks after a head injury against Battle High School, did not seem to miss a beat as she pushed the ball through the Sacred Heart defense for scoring opportunities.

Eagles defender Emma McGuire, seemingly lost for the season due to illness, has returned to the lineup and coach Chris Miller said she is beginning to show signs of being the same person who was an All District defender a year ago.
