Southern Boone Varsity Eagles barely hung on until the end in the nail-biting, back-and-forth game against Grain Valley Eagles on Thursday, April 11th. The bottom of the lineup was strong for Southern Boone. Jace Wren, Brayden Beckmann, and Hunter Richardson combined for six of the team’s hits.
The Eagles were first to get on the board when Zimmerman tripled, scoring one run. Grain Valley answered the Eagles when they scored four runs in the first. Southern Boone tied the game in the top of the second thanks to an error, and a single by Chase Morris.
The Eagles flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring six runs on two hits to take a 10-4 lead. Wren delivered another blow to Grain Valley with a single that drove in two.
Grain Valley then tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. Jace Reynolds contributed to the win, allowing only one hit, zero runs, striking out three, and walking none. Richardson showed the depth of Southern Boone’s lineup, leading with three hits in five at bats.
Wren and Zimmerman each drove in two runs, Chase Morris collected two hits in three at bats, and Reynolds led the team with three walks. Overall, the Southern Boone Eagles had a strong eye at the plate and amassed four stolen bases for the game.
The Southern Boone Eagles pulled out a victory 12-11, and now hold a season record of 15-5. The varsity will face Olathe North on Thursday, April 18th at 6:00pm.
