Part of the plan for the Southern Boone School District to address the recent social media threat issues is increased engagement with parents. One of the ways they propose to do this is through offering specialized educational sessions.

From the district webpage, “We invite parents, grandparents, guardians, and community members with students in any grade within the school district to join us as Detective Andy Evans, a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, shares his expertise on current crimes and trends involving minors using the Internet.”

This event will take place on Monday, October 21st, 2024, at 6:30pm in the middle school cafeteria at 303 N. Main Street. NOTE: This event is for individuals 18 years and older. Topics will include Artificial Intelligence, Cyberbullying, Digital Awareness, Common Scams, Dangers of Sexting and Sextortion, Shooting Threats, and Missouri Laws.

Put this on your calendar if you are 50 or older! “The Southern Boone School District is excited to share details about the next event for the Southern Boone Golden Eagles Club, a new initiative designed for individuals ages 50 and older, along with local business leaders in the community. The primary objective of this club is to provide a platform for members to stay informed about the exciting developments and achievements within the school district.

We invite the community to join us for the Golden Eagles Club’s Fall 2024 Community Tailgate and Program on Tuesday, October 29th, from 6:00-7:30PM at the Southern Boone High School Football/Soccer Stadium.

This special event will feature live entertainment, including performances by the Southern Boone High School Marching Band and the Southern Boone High Cheerleaders. Attendees will enjoy a delicious meal of grilled burgers and hotdogs, along with chips, broccoli salad, cookies and beverages including tea, lemonade, and water.

In addition to entertainment and food, the evening will include presentations from key district leaders. Activities Director Trent Tracy will provide an update on fall athletics and activities, while Superintendent Dr. Tim Roth will discuss district news and give an update on the construction project at the high school.”

Reminder: The “Ham & Beans” dinner is on Saturday, October 19th, at the American Legion Hall from 11am to 2pm. The cost is $8 per person for slaw, cornbread, dessert, and drinks with your ham & beans.
