Margaret Louise Martin, 89, of Columbia, formerly of Ashland passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Louise was born outside of Ashland on September 21, 1935, to the late Robert and Lois (Williams) Martin. She attended Southern Boone grade school and high school, where she excelled on the girls’ basketball team. After graduating high school in 1953, her work career included Boone County National Bank and Shelter Insurance.
Louise enjoyed going to church and was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church and later Ashland Baptist Church. She was a long-time board member of the Boone County New Salem Cemetery. In the early years Louise would help her parents with the upkeep of the cemetery. Louise loved to play sports, including softball, basketball and bowling. Since 1974 she faithfully followed the Mizzou Women’s basketball team, even going to their away games in Cancun and the Bahamas. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s fan. She also enjoyed playing cards and dominos with her friends in Branson. She fulfilled her goal of traveling to all 50 states, Mexico and Canada.
Survivors include her lifelong friend, Mary Wozny of Columbia, a sister, Rosetta Weaver of Eldon, a sister-in-law, Mary Martin of Ashland, six nieces, two nephews and many more great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, a sister, Naomi Royston, and brother, Stanley Martin.
Services honoring Louise will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Robinson-Yager Funeral Home. A visitation will be held starting at 10:00 a.m. until the time for the service. Louise will be buried in the Boone County New Salem Cemetery, Ashland, next to her parents and aunt.
