Obituary: Ida Elizabeth “Liz” Roberts

Ida Elizabeth “Liz” Roberts, 81, of Ashland, residing recently in Decatur, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Primrose Retirement Community in Decatur, Illinois. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, MO with Visitation starting at 10am, Memorial Service to follow at 11am and interment in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Liz was born in Centerville, Iowa on December 13, 1942, the daughter of Orville Stanley King and Eulan Ida White King. She graduated from Centerville High School in Centerville, IA. On December 22, 1966, in Jacksonville, Florida she was united in marriage to Walter Lee Roberts who preceded her in death on February 14, 1999. After marriage Walt and Liz moved to different places with Walt’s job and accumulated a long list of lasting friendships before settling in Ashland, MO. Liz spent most of her time bringing up their 3 boys and supporting them through their school activities and crazy shenanigans. She also spent time outside the home as a lunch helper and cook for many years in the Ashland Public School system.

Liz was a member of Goshen Primitive Baptist Church in Hartsburg, MO where in October of 2001 she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Trusted Savior and was baptized. She is most known and remembered for her love of life, infectious laugh and joy of playing cards with Family, Friends and anyone that was willing to challenge her at Hand & Foot, 500 or Rummy. Hardly an afternoon would go by without a game of cards when Liz was present.

Liz is survived by her children: Steven Joseph (Julie) Roberts of Perrysburg, OH; Michael Lee (Julie) Roberts of Greenfield, WI; Kris Orville (Cady) Roberts of Decatur, IL; grandchildren Eric (Lara), Jeff (Cory), Kristopher (Alora), Jack (Jazmyn Prill), Nicholas, Dylan and Brooklan Roberts; great grandchildren Tristan, Jaxen, Hazel, Griffyn, Ryker, Londyn and Jasper Roberts; living sister Orvella (Michael) Shipman of Monroe, IA and nieces Jeanette (Geoff) Horn, Jennifer (Barney Moore) Shipman and nephew Jason (Katie) Shipman; and many great and great great nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents Orville and Eulan King; her husband Walter Roberts and brother Pearlie King.
