Erna Marie Henrietta Beckmeyer, 102, of Hartsburg passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at Ashland Healthcare after a brief illness. She and her family were very fortunate that she was able to remain in her own home in good health up until her recent stroke.

Erna was born and raised on a farm in Hartsburg, MO on August 13, 1914 to William and Nora (Hilgedick) Wintermeyer. She married Alfred Beckmeyer on July 23, 1936 at Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church (now Peace United Church of Christ) in Hartsburg, where she was a lifetime member.

After high school graduation, Erna went to cosmetology school and earned $18.00 a week at her first job in Jefferson City, MO. Over the years, she used these skills to cut and style the hair of many family members.

Erna was very active in her church and community. She was a 4-H community leader, member of the Friendly Neighbors Extension Club, and active in the county and state Farm Bureau‘s. Her musical talents were shown in many ways including teaching her children and grandchildren how to play piano, singing in the church choir and as the church organist and choir director for many years.

Family was very important to Erna! All of her children live within a half mile of her home in Hartsburg including two sons and their wives, Orion and Barbara Beckmeyer and Glen and Linda Beckmeyer and one daughter Janet Beckmeyer. Also surviving is one sister, Ruth Zeller of Boonville; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Beckmeyer (2005) and a brother Ora Wintermeyer (1935).

Funeral services are under the direction of Robinson Funeral Home and will be held at Peace United Church of Christ in Hartsburg, Mo. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, January 6, 2017 and the service on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00am with burial to follow.
