Cindy Broswell, 57, passed away peacefully at 3:55pm June 11th, 2016 at University Hospital Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. She was surrounded by loved ones and was very well taken care of by the University nurses and doctors. Cindy was a homemaker the majority of her life and raised their three children while moving often with her husband at the time (Scott M. Broswell), who was on active duty with the U.S. Navy. Cindy was a talented artist and loved the simple things in life: family, arts & crafts, television, and the outdoors. In her last few years she enjoyed cruising the river and watching the sunsets along the banks of the Missouri, and attending karaoke nights with her partner, Rusty, and friends. Cindy dealt with many ailments throughout her life including osteomyelitis, heart issues, depression, and the differing cancers from which she ultimately succumbed. Regardless of health issues she, like her parents before her, always remained incredibly strong and persevered, living her life to her own beat! She is proceeded in death by both parents, Clara Catherine Schleis Rhodes and Sumner Rufus Rhodes. Cindy is survived by her children, Nick and Kim Broswell (Columbia), Bryan and Megan Ballweber (Littleton, Co), and Kimberly Broswell (Parker, Co); grandchildren, Lauren, Shelby, and Lillian Broswell (Columbia); sister, Sandy West (Lake Ozark); brothers, Tim Rhodes (Osage Beach) and Roger Rhodes (Lake Ozark); and her partner of eight years, Rusty Baker (Hartsburg), as well as many other loving relatives and friends in Iowa and Missouri.

Cindy requested to be cremated. Cremation services were provided by Columbia Cremation Care Center. A small, non-traditional service for family and friends will be held on June 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilton Boat Club in Hartsburg, Mo, where her ashes will be spread into the Missouri River. The family is planning to meet at Woody’s Pub and Grub in Ashland after services for a lunch and mingle with family and friends.
