It is likely that parents delivering their children to school will see walls go up before they see the snow fly this winter.

The Southern Boone County R-1 School Board took a number of steps forward on Monday to begin building on multiple projects at the Primary, Elementary and High Schools.

The projects are a part of a bond issue passed by SoBoCo voters last spring. Classrooms and a gymnasium are being built at the south campus while a PE/weight room is being added onto the gym at the High School.

More than $5 million in bids were presented by Septagon Contstruction’s Jim Russell and each were approved.

In addition to the new projects, a bid was accepted to retro-fit the Primary building with a fire sprinkler system for just under $250,000.

“We are hoping to see walls up soon,” said SoBoCo Superintendent Chris Felmlee – who would not guess as to when the first snowfall might be. “I don’t know about snow, but we know we have good weather now and we are wanting everyone to have a sense of urgency.”
