Republican Boone County Commission candidate Fred Parry might not have expected to find endorsements among Democrats who were on the primary ticket and lost – but he was happy to take all endorsements last Thursday evening.
Parry hosted a campaign rally event Thursday evening at Woody’s Pub & Grub and had a turnout of supporters.
“Ashland needs a strong southern district commissioner and a county commission which will support its growing needs,” Parry told the crowd. “Instead of barriers and roadblocks, the county commission needs to ask, ‘How can we help you?'”
Parry is facing Democrat Brianna Lennon, who defeated a field of five candidates and garnered 39% of the primary vote.
The two candidates are competing to replace Karen Miller in the Southern District seat. Miller, a Democrat, has held the seat for 23 years.
However, Parry has received support from four of Lennon’s competitors.
Democrats Ann Peters, Ted Farnan, Trevor Fowler and Ashland Mayor Gene Rhorer have all thrown their support into getting Parry elected to the county commission.
Fowler, a deputy in the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the School Resource Officer at Southern Boone Schools, said that Parry has the right experience as a small business owner plus his experience with the hospital board is an asset. “He is a community leader, a business owner and he understands the Boone County culture,” Fowler said.
