Family, friends, and neighbors of Hartsburg residents Mike and Carol Oliver observed a moving memorial presentation this weekend as Mike was awarded a beautifully hand-crafted patriotic quilt. It was formally presented by the QUILTS OF VALOR FOUNDATION (QOVF).
The non-profit organization was started in 2003 and to date has awarded over 355,000 quilts to veterans in honor of their service and sacrifice to our country.
Mid Missouri Quilts of Valor representative, Connie Richards also presented Mike Oliver with a Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pin that recognizes those who served in the Vietnam War. Mike entered his service with the Marines in 1968. He was in combat during the start of the Tet Offensive. When Mike returned, he finished his service as a recruiter for the Marines in St. Louis before moving back to Hartsburg.
