Marilyn Bennett, 82, of Columbia, passed away, Thursday, October 6, 2022. Funeral Services will be 11am, Friday, October 14th at Memorial Funeral Home 1217 Business Loop 70 West in Columbia with burial to follow in Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery in Hartsburg. Friends may gather at the funeral home from 10-11am Friday.
Marilyn was born July 10, 1940 in Boone County to Cloid and Chloe Glascock Calvin. In 1958 she graduated from Ashland High School and soon after, she married Howard Eugene Bennett at Goshen Primitive Baptist Church. She worked for State Farm Insurance before beginning their family, then she operated an in-home daycare for many years. After she retired from her daycare work, she renewed her clerical work for Shelter Insurance. Between the mid 1980’s and late 1990’s, they owned the Pierpont General Store. She then opened their greenhouse and raised many beautiful flowers and some fruits and vegetables to sell at the local Farmer’s Market. She continued to work in her greenhouse until her husband passed in 2021. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Marilyn was member of the Goshen Primitive Baptist Church for over fifty years.
She is survived by her children, Chris (Michelle) Bennett and Andrea Anderson both of Columbia; grandchildren, James (Kelsey) Bennett, Stephen Bennett, and Braeden & Avary Anderson; a great-grandchild Kendall, several nieces and nephews and a loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband; Howard Eugene Bennett, brothers, Eldon & Jimmy Calvin; sister, Maggie Crane, and her parents.
