Carolyn and Wayne Selby will host 17 members of their family this Christmas and the centerpiece of their celebration will be the 10-foot tree adorned with ornaments that range from Waterford crystal to handmade ornaments from the Selby’s kids when they were children.

The 10-foot tree at the home of Carolyn and Wayne Selby is artificial, however, the ornaments tell a story of travel, children and grandchildren. Selby says she has used the same tree for 19 years, but adds new ornaments each year. Selby said some of the ornaments go as far back as 1969.

Selby said it took two-to-three days to decorate the large artificial tree – working at it a few hours each day. The ornaments include numerous Santas – including Santa getting a haircut, a tribute to Carolyn and Wayne’s lifelong profession – a few slot machines and ornaments Carolyn has purchased on travels to London, Paris and other locations.

While Carolyn says she has enjoyed the artificial tree, she had formerly purchased live trees. “I once even exchanged a tree,” Selby laughed, “my kids tell me I’m kind of particular – which is why they always let me decorate the tree.”
