Southern Boone softball set two goals for the season. The first was to win the Tri-County Conference. The second was to win its district.

The Eagles accomplished the first task, closing the regular season with a 15-0 win on the road to Osage.

Senior catcher Gracie Britton led the way with two home runs and five RBIs. Junior first baseman Abigail Haskamp hit two doubles while picking up four RBIs.

Southern Boone entered the postseason as the No. 1 team in Class 3 District 5. The Eagles won their semifinal matchup 11-0 against Boonville.

On Oct. 20, the team reached the second goal by defeating California 4-1 in the Class 3 District 5 championship to win its first district title since 2011.

The Eagles (20-12) will host Cassville, a 4-0 winner over Seneca, in a state quarterfinal Saturday.

Volleyball wins pair of conference matches

After a slow start to Tri-County Conference action, Southern Boone closed strong with wins against Hallsville and Boonville this past week. In addition to the two conference wins, the Eagles knocked off Versailles 3-0 to start the week.

In the Hallsville match, junior middle blocker Kambria Brown and senior Kate Taylor shared the offensive load with 11 kills each.

The Eagles extended their winning streak to four, their longest of the season thus far.

No. 5 Southern Boone opens postseason play in the quarterfinals of the district tournament against No. 4 Kirksville at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in Hallsville.

Cross Country runners place in conference tournament

The Southern Boone cross county team competed at the Tri-County Conference tournament in Eldon on Oct. 16. While neither team sent enough runners to compete for a team score, both had individuals who raced extremely well.

In the boys race, freshman Maddox Kennedy finished the highest of any Eagle in second with a time of 17 minutes, 54.6 seconds. Junior Jackson Campbell ended the race in seventh at 18:30.91.

Southern Boone only sent two runners on the girls side, but both of them finished top 10. Senior Zarafan Satterfield finished fifth at 22:04.06. The other runner was freshman Harlee Collins, placing 10th at 23:18.97.

Southern Boone looks ahead to the Bowling Green High School Cross Country Invite on Friday in Bowling Green.

Southern Boone girls golf heads to state tournament

The Southern Boone girls golf season is done. However, senior Breckyn Shewmake and junior Courtney Hargis will compete for the individual title.

After the first round Oct. 20, Hargis is in ninth place with an 89 and Shewmake is tied for 32nd with a 98.

Both qualified for the state tournament the previous season, with Shewmake finishing 10th and Hargis finished 55th.
