Looking for a college scholarship for your young athlete?

Your best bet might be on the golf course – and the Southern Boone YMCA is providing an opportunity to introduce the sport to local youth.

Former Eagles golfer Walker Kesterson is now competing at Southern Mississippi. SoBoCo Activities Director is hoping to generate more interest in the Eagles golf program.

The Southern Boone YMCA announced Monday that they will host a summer golf camp at Eagle Knoll Golf Course.

Young golfers ages 8-13 can participate and must provide their own golf clubs.

According to YMCA director Kip Batye, young golfers will learn the basic rules and etiquette of golf and spend time on the range learning how to drive, chip and putt. Golfers will then get to put their skills to the test as they play 18-holes at Eagle Knoll.

According the SoBoCo Activities Director Pat Lacy, the golf camp is exactly what is needed for young golfers who might want to start the sport and compete later at the high school level.

“Golf is the only sport at Southern Boone that we don’t have a feeder program for,” Lacy said.
