Southern Boone County volleyball started conference play with a close, come from behind 3-set win against Boonville on August 28th.

The Eagles dropped the first set 25-22. Head coach Emily Becker said small mistakes had kept them behind in the set, such as missed serves or miscommunication between players. Boonville went on some long runs that forced the team to play catch up.

“I told them [Boonville] can’t go on any more than a three-point run. If they score two points in a row, we better be winning the next ball,” Becker told her team between games.

Stopping runs was key in the second and third games. Becker said they emphasize “first ball side-outs” in practice, which is getting the serve back after the opponent has control of the serve. By winning that first ball back, SoBoCo was able to stall momentum Boonville may have gathered.
