Southern Boone’s Rece Gilmore take a perfectly placed pass from Rajesh Bennett and slammed the ball into the net for the only score of the game on Monday night, giving the SoBoCo Eagles a 1-0 win over district opponent Father Tolton Trailblazers in Ashland.

“It was two evenly-matched teams and we made one more play than they did,” Eagles coach Chris Miller said after the game.

The two teams traded opportunities for the first 60-minutes, with the SoBoCo defense and goalie Nick Grabner slamming the door shut each time the Trailblazers moved near the Eagles goal.

The Eagles best chance came with 17 minutes remaining in the game. Bennett received the ball towards the middle of the field and raced diagonally towards the Trailblazers corner. He beat his defender downfield and turned and passed the ball back to Gilmore, who created space for himself in the Trailblazers defense. Gilmore took Bennett’s perfectly placed pass about 15-yards from the goal and slotted the ball into the net at the far post, beating the Tolton goalie who was attempting to cut down the angle on the shot.
