For those who thought the Eagles soccer program might be facing a precipitous drop-off in results this season – not so fast.

Despite losing perhaps its most talented senior class after its third Final Four season, the Eagles were thought to be less skillful and in a re-building season.
All they did in their first week was demolish one rival, find a way to nip another former district rival at the wire in a game they could have easily lost and then thoroughly dominate a larger school in a convincing 3-0 win.
Times don’t seem to be changing much when it comes to Eagles soccer.
In Saturday’s win over Battle High, the Eagles were stalemated for the first 25 minutes – mostly by a Battle defense when fell back deeper and deeper until SoBoCo was facing a full 11 Spartans on defense.
But senior Ian McCluskey took on three defenders, pushing his way through two of them and juking another, and pushing his shot past the Battle keeper at the far post.
For coach Chris Miller, it was the play that gave the Eagles some room to breathe.
