The SoBoCo Eagles wrestling team have taken to the mats as the newest Eagles athletic team.

Coach Trent Tracy coached the Eagles last year as a non-competitive introduction to the sport and says this year the team will be ready for competition.

The Eagles will only have two home matches this season – a reflection of being the new team in the area – but will have a full schedule of home matches next season.

In Missouri High School wrestling, there are 14 weights, starting at 106 lbs. to 285.

Tracy said SoBoCo will be led by Blake Schmidt at 126 lbs. Schmidt placed fifth at the state tournament last year wrestling for Father Tolton. Tracy said the Eagles would also have a few wrestlers who have experience in youth programs.

“We have Jackson Sartain, Dominic Lawrence, Dawson Paul with some youth wrestling experience,” Tracy said. “And we also have Tyler Lutz and Connor Phillips who are picking things up quickly and moving around the mat well.”

The Eagles have 25 wrestlers and will be capable of fielding a full varsity squad in its first season of competition – something many high schools cannot do. Tracy said that the other 11- or so wrestlers will be able to gain experience by wrestling at the junior varsity level.
