Indoor summer sports camps are not the only sports camps for Southern Boone Eagles.

The Eagles football team recently attended a two-day camp at Central Methodist University and head coach Trent Tracy came away impressed.

“We had five practices leading up to the camp,” Tracy said, “just so we could get some plays down and be prepared. The guys did a good job of being ready to scrimmage.”

The Eagles scrimmaged 10 games and Tracy said SoBoCo came away with a 9-1 record – but, more importantly, the scrimmages gave the coaching staff a few ideas about who might be ready to compete for playing time.

With 35 players at the camp, Tracy had plenty of opportunity to see the core of next year’s team get repetitions.

“We were in full pads and had controlled scrimmages – no kicking game,” Tracy said. “We were just looking at offense and defense.”

Trying to fill the shoes of 17 departing seniors from a team who won a playoff game at California and came within a few minutes winning another playoff game at Fulton might seem like a tough task, but Tracy said the Eagles played hard all weekend.
