The Southern Boone County high school baseball team had a season-defining week.

Last Monday, they were facing a schedule that included matchups with three state-ranked teams, two of those being on one day. Their record had just fallen to 2-4 with a loss to conference foe Boonville, and scoring had come in small spurts throughout the season. Head coach Brian Ash said that it would have been easy for his team to take what they had been through so far and regressed.

Instead, his team went 3-0 on the week, scoring 21 runs over the three games and defeating the No. 2, No. 6 and No. 10 team in the state.

“Each game we got a little bit better and progressed in some areas we’d been struggling in. It’s a sign that the hard works paying off, and that the things we’re trying to get them to buy into, they’re buying into,” Ash said.

The impressive week started with a 7-3 win over the sixth-ranked Blair Oaks Falcons on April 2. Senior Sam Stichnote couldn’t miss at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two extra base hits and an RBI. His double to right field scored the initial run in the first and opened the door for the Eagles. They scored again in the second, third and tacked on three in the seventh to secure the win.
