The Eagles softball team was doomed by a blooper to short left-center field that scored the winning run for the Helias Crusaders as they defeated SoBoCo 2-1 in the semi-finals of distrcit play last week.

The Eagles ended their season with a 17-9 record.

Eagles coach Ashley Anderson said the close game was a tough loss to take, but was proud of how the SoBoCo squad competed.

“We played really tough down the stretch,” Anderson said. “The girls played good softball and we were in this one all the way.”

Helias got on the board first in the pitcher’s dual with their hurler belting a fifth inning home run off of the Eagles pitcher Ashley Osborne.

But the Eagles came right back in the sixth to tie it when catcher Kate Ponder reached base on an error and went to third on Dani Post’s base hit. Ponder then scored on Howell’s only wild pitch of the game and Post went to third on the play. However, with two outs and Post on third, Osborne’s line drive was smoked right at the Crusader’s center fielder.
