SoBoCo volleyball coach Jamie Nelson was unsure what the young Eagles would show her in the first game of the season.

Or even if the team could get to the game on time.

Concerned about solar eclipse traffic, the Eagles left early and had no traffic tie-ups.

Once on the Mexico gym floor, the Eagles showed Nelson that they had plenty of competitive spirit as they overcame a two-point deficit in the third game to defeat the Bulldogs in their season opener.

“A win is a win,” Nelson said of the initial effort – which was not always a “pretty” game.

The Eagles started fast with a 25-9 opening win in the first game.

“I didin’t like what I saw in at (a scrimmage) Eldon, so we changed how we warm up and I think that got the kids ready to play,” Nelson said. “They were just excited to play.”
