The Eagles soccer team overcame a lackluster effort and their first loss at MMA on Tuesday to comeback and get two wins in the Hannibal Tournament. They nearly got another win in the championship game, but fell to Hickman 2-1.

Southern Boone’s Brett Brookshire had a strong weekend for the Eagles in the Hannibal Tournament.

The Eagles are now 5-2 and entering into their toughest portion of the schedule this fall.

Hickman took advantage of an Eagles misplayed ball and a bit of luck to jump to a 2-0 first half lead in Saturday’s championship game.

“We played pretty well most of the game,” said Eagles coach Chris Miller. “The scored on a counter attack goal – they made a good play and got their shot off and it went right to the net – and their second goal we misplayed a ball and they scored, but that was about the only scoring opportunities they had in the first half.”

It was all Eagles in the second half as Sam Bonderer took a pass from Rece Gilmore and put his shot past the Kewpies keeper to pull the Eagles back to within one goal. SoBoCo kept up the attack, however, Hickman packed in their defense and prevented the Eagles from getting many great opportunities to tie the game.

“It was all us in the second half,” Miller said, “it was unfortunate with that outcome, but they hung on well.”
