Eagles look to stay unbeaten

The last two seasons, the Eldon-SoBoCo football game has been won by eight points or less – and this year might not be any different.
The Mustangs (1-1) will come to town on the heels of a 48-27 loss at Owensville and the Eagles will be looking to stay unbeaten.
The Eagles will have to contend with big, physical linemen from Eldon.
“They go about 245 lbs. across the line,” said coach Trent Tracy, “that will challenge us on both sides of the ball.”
The Eagles like to establish the running game with Tanner Smith and Colby Phillips, but the Mustangs will bring their 5-2 defense in to stop the run.
What happens next will be a chess match: If the Eagles’ Spencer Taggart can hit a few short passes in the flat, it will force Eldon to adjust their defense. At that point, either the Eagles will run the ball and/or challenge the Mustangs defense with the deep pass.
SoBoCo’s defense, on the other hand, will have to contain the rollout and play-action passing of Eldon QB Austin Kempker. Last week, Kempker hooked up with Cole Walker for a long TD pass/run. Kempker also likes to throw to Morgan Andreson and Jacob Whittle.
Eldon’s Isaiah Parsons ran the ball for 126 yards last week, stepping in for Trenton Kidwell – who was out with an ankle injury. It is not known if Kidwell will play this week.
“Eldon will come committed to running the ball,” Tracy said, “they have a big line and can go on long drives.”
The Eagles will need to play another mistake-free game, create some turnovers and open up their offense to challenge the Mustangs pass defense.
• SoBoCo will be without Dominic Lawrence on the offensive and defensive line on Friday as he had surgery to repair a broken thumb. Lawrence will be replaced by Blake Wooden and Charlie Smith.
