The SoBoCo Eagles volleyball team has their season ended in district play the past two seasons by the Fulton Hornets.

That streak is over as the Eagles dropped the first game then stormed back to win two straight games and win their first district game in four years.

The Eagles, now 9-16-3, will face top-seeded California Pintos tonight in the semi-finals in Marshall.

After dropping the first game 22-25, SoBoCo fell quickly behind in the second game. But senior Emma Straub served seven straight points for SoBoCo and the Eagles took control of the game, eventually winning and forcing a third game.

The rubber game of the match was never in doubt as SoBoCo controlled the game behind the setting of Kayla Sage and hitting by Sayde Taggart, Gabbie Bruce and Brooklyn Marrs, routing the Hornets 25-8.

“Our defense was strong throughout the game and carried us,” said Eagles coach Jaime Nelson. “Emma (Straub) was just very steady on defense and Kayla was calm and steady the entire game – for a freshman that is really impressive.”

The Eagles have played the Pintos close twice only to lose both games, however, Nelson said she is hopeful that the Eagles now have some momentum going into the semi-finals.
