It wasn’t pretty, but in playoff soccer the idea is to simply win and advance.

The SoBoCo Eagles won convincingly on the scoreboard Monday night, blanking Fulton by a 4-0 score in a game that even coach Chris Miller labeled as “lifeless at times.”

Senior Derek Gilmore moves the ball upfield during Monday’s district soccer win over Fulton. The Eagles take on Tolton for the district title tonight.

The Eagles advanced on their home field to play Father Tolton Regional Catholic High School on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Trailblazers defeated Mexico 6-1 in the other district semi-final.

The Eagles could not seemingly penetrate Fulton’s 8-man defensive alignment early in the game, but it was a typical Southern Boone “junk goal” when Ian Moore found himself in the right place at the right time. When Fulton could not manage to clear a cross through the middle of their crowded defense, Moore initially whiffed on the ball, then turned and booted the loose ball into the corner of the net from about 10 yards out.
