Michael D. Caldwell, 67, of Columbia passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at his home.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Memorial Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Life service to follow.

He was born on May 14, 1952, in Columbia the son of Charles Dexter and Wanda Irene (Hicks) Caldwell, both of whom preceded him in death.

Mike was a 1970 graduate of Hickman High School and attended Columbia College. He worked as an electrician in Missouri before moving to Louisiana in 1984 and later to Florida. While out of state, he began working for an electrical supply company and when he moved back to Missouri in 1996, he worked for French-Gerleman in Columbia. He enjoyed football, track and musicals in high school, and while in college he was a published poet. He was a self-taught musician, playing guitar, harmonica and piano. He was an avid reader and was proficient with computers. Mike was friendly, easy to talk to and didn’t know a stranger. Mike looked forward to holidays with family and monthly luncheons with his brother’s family and his sister. After having open-heart surgery in 2017 he enjoyed exercise and nature walks.

He is survived by: his siblings, Sharon Jennings of Hartsburg, and Shelley (Linda) Caldwell of Columbia; niece Sylvia Caldwell; nephew Chris (Stephanie) Jennings; and great niece and nephews, Skylar Jennings, Hunter Jennings and Faith Jennings. He was preceded in death by one half-brother, Steve; and one brother-in-law Larry Jennings.
